grandMA AI
An AI light-show controller for grandMA consoles. In development — follow the progress in the blog.
An AI assistant for the lighting designer. The software listens to the music, describes what's happening — tempo, energy, song phase — and an AI model picks the scene, intensity and palette. Commands go to a grandMA console over OSC or telnet.
The human stays at the desk: the software suggests, the designer confirms or cancels. Strobes and harsh effects need confirmation, and a single “hands off” button disables automation. I'm building it in the open — the experiment diary is in the blog.

How it works
- 01
Listening: real-time audio analysis — beat, BPM, energy, drops.
- 02
Decisions: once per musical phrase the AI model picks scene, intensity and palette.
- 03
Safety: whitelisted commands only; low-confidence decisions are just hints to the operator.
- 04
Console: commands go to grandMA, the lighting designer confirms or cancels.
- Development started in September 2026
- Stage one: a grandMA3 onPC test bench
- Then a club test in suggestion mode
